Love Waxing Cold

Matthew 24 gives a description of what it will be like in the last days. Verse 12 tells us the love of many will wax cold. While I believe this will be most fully demonstrated in the days of anti-christ’s rule, where friends, neighbors and even families will betray one another; we are seeing the beginnings of this already.

Maybe it is just me, but I have noticed people growing increasingly irritable and grouchy with one another. People who claim to love one another are always at each others’ throats. The most heartbreaking example of this is how I see some children being treated. People who claim to be followers of Christ are so worn down with life, that they neglect to enjoy even the most simple of pleasures: their children and grandchildren.  I am witnessing young hearts and impressionable minds…precious souls…being pushed aside because the adults have other things on their minds and fail to see the invaluable opportunity that lays before them. In the case of parents and grandparents, they fail to see (or in some cases choose to ignore) the heavy responsible God has given them in the nurturing and training of these young souls.

I am seeing eager, enthusiastic, hopeful eyes suddenly grow dim as once again their little hearts are injured by being cast aside as a nuisance.

I hear harsh words spoken to them…words that perhaps are meant to teach a “life lesson”, but instead are emotionally damaging.

I don’t believe in coddling children to the point they think the world revolves around them, but kindness, respect and tenderness is greatly lacking.

Folks, this shouldn’t be: ESPECIALLY if you claim the name of Christ. Grandfathers and Dads: you have little boys that look up to you and need your validation and approval and TIME. You have little girls that need your love, time and affirmation. Mothers and Grandmothers: God has gifted women with a natural tendency to nurture and cuddle; the house work can wait and a little mess is not worth damaging your relationship with the precious souls God has entrusted to you.

Let’s return to kindness and showing love for one another. The days are short. Words DO matter and a loving smile can go a long way.

16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3
