Back to square one?

6 1/2 years ago my daughter was diagnosed with mental retardation,  unspecified.  Yes, they said MR. Anyway, the specialists said she is NOT autistic and guesstimated her IQ to be around 55.

The past few weeks we’ve been taking her to the adolescent medicine department at the University of Kentucky, to get to the bottom of her behavior issues. She will be 13 in November.  She met with the psychologist today who wants to retest her for autism and administer a nonverbal IQ test. She is verbal, she just doesn’t answer most questions.

So, it appears we are back to square one.  That’s ok. It has been a long and difficult journey and I’m glad we have finally been connected with competent specialists who actually want to help.
