He leads and sustains

A few weeks ago the public school tested my daughter (I call her Applebutter) in the areas of speech, language,  IQ, functioning and for autism.

She will be 13 in November.  When she was barely 6, she was diagnosed with mental retardation unspecified, along with language disorder and sensory processing disorder.

We always suspected autism but have spent the last 6 years being shuffled from one expert to another, as well as battling insurance issues.

Today, through the school psychologist, we were finally told it is autism. Of course the school psychologist can not issue the official diagnosis, but she will submit her testing results to our adolescent doctor at the University of Kentucky. I’m sure he will issue the official diagnosis.  There is more.

Applebutter’s IQ is 45. She also has severe language disorder. Although she is nearly 13, she is at a preschool level.

We’ve known for a long time she will never be fully independent and we leave her in God’s hands. These results are helpful to us in understanding our daughter better and making sure she gets the help she needs to learn and grow.

I know that Jesus holds her to His bosom and He has wonderful plans for her. He will continue to lead and sustain me as well.

He will feed His flock like a shepherd;
He will gather the lambs with His arm,
And carry them in His bosom,
And gently lead those who are with young. Isaiah 40:11
