Ok I finally feel comfortable in issuing an official opinion on the significance of this upcoming September 23rd.
In case you are one of the few who have no idea what I’m talking about, let me give you a brief recap.
On September 23rd of this year, there will be an astronomical alignment of stars and constellations that many are touting is described in Revelation chapter 12.
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
Revelation 12:1-6 NKJV
On 9/23/17, the moon will be at the “feet” of the constellation Virgo, with Jupiter in her womb area, the sun at her shoulder and the constellation Leo above her head. They outline Leo with 9 bright stars, with Mercury, Venus and Mars also within that alignment making a crown of 12 stars on Virgo’s head.
There are some who believe this passage of Scripture points to the rapture of the church. They say the child birthed is the church and thus taken up to God when the dragon tries to destroy it. They also claim this particular alignment is rare, having only happened one other time…at Creation, 6000 years ago. I read others to say it also appeared during the time of Jesus’ birth.
While the 9/23 alignment is fascinating in and of itself, I can find no evidence that this particular event is in fact rare. Everyone who says it is rare is simply quoting a like-minded (and well-intentioned I’m sure) Christian who is no doubt anxiously awaiting the rapture.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m SO ready to go Home and am looking up and listening for that trumpet. However, as I said, there is no solid evidence that September 24 will not greet the church as usual. No we cannot know the day or hour. I still believe in the imminent return of Jesus for His bride. If only it were today, or 9/23!
I agree with the several trusted end-times scholars I have sought out on this issue. The child born in the passage is Jesus. The woman is Israel, the 12 stars are the tribes. Jesus is who will rule the nations with a rod of iron, not the church, though we are sure to have some kind of leadership role. We are nothing with Christ. The woman, Israel, will be hidden and protected for a time during the great tribulation. When I say Israel, I mean the remnant who will finally recognize Yeshua as their Messiah.
Too often excited Christians jump on every band wagon that hints at prophecy without fully thinking it through. This does NOT mean the rest of us are scoffers. We are watching and waiting with much anticipation, only with discernment.
Here are a few articles for your consideration. Two are sources I trust, the other is secular but seemingly open minded. Just because I do not agree that 9/23 will be the day of rapture, does not mean I do not think God is trying to get our attention. Lord willing, we will discuss this next time. Maranatha!
This final video is an interview with LA Marzulli, whom I don’t always agree with, but he makes some good points here.
