Before the process of harvesting the wheat the wheat any tares are separated. This is what I believe to be happening now.


The first step in the process of harvesting wheat is to loosen the chaff from the edible grain, which is called threshing. The way it was done was to spread the wheat onto a floor made from stone, or tamped earth and to beat it with a flail


Winnowing iswhere the loosened chaff is removed from the grain. The way of doing this is to throw the grain in the air, where the lighter chaff is blown off by even a decent breeze. The heavier grain falls back to the ground below.

The final step is ‘sifting’ and its purpose is toseparate. The sifting occurred once the wheat had been gathered in and winnowed. The wheat was gathered up off the floor…
