O Breath of Life-A Prayer for Today

The following hymn was written by Bessie Porter Head in 1920. Oh, how these words resonate with me and how applicable they are 100 years later!!

Oh Lord in Heaven, forgive us for our complacency and obese indulgences of worldly things. Breathe on us oh Breath of Life!

1 O Breath of life, come sweeping through us,
revive your church with life and pow’r;
O Breath of Life, come, cleanse, renew us,
and fit your church to meet this hour.

2 O Wind of God, come bend us, break us,
till humbly we confess our need;
then in your tenderness remake us,
revive, restore, for this we plead.

3 O Breath of love, come breathe within us,
renewing thought and will and heart;
come, Love of Christ, afresh to win us,
revive your church in ev’ry part.

4 O Heart of Christ, once broken for us,
’tis there we find our strength and rest;
our broken, contrite hearts now solace,
and let your waiting church be blest.

5 Revive us, Lord! Is zeal abating
while harvest fields are vast and white?
Revive us, Lord, the world is waiting,
equip your church to spread the light.

This has been my prayer for weeks, though I did not discover this hymn til Wednesday evening.

Lord, fit Your church to meet this hour!

Keep the Lamps Full

th (5)

So many of us are growing weary and are just plain TIRED. As JD Farag said recently, those of us who speak the Truth can expect to be blasted with persecution in some form or another. Even I, little me who has such a small influence, am not overlooked by the enemy. Any time I post something which exposes the dark forces at work, trouble in my personal life follows. It is no coincidence, and the enemy knows how to push my buttons-often using  my own family to put me through the wringer.

Most of us are just tired of living in this evil world. The spirit of the world is in constant battle with the Spirit within us and we will be glad when it is all over.

Still, we MUST keep our lamps trimmed. We must continue to shine the Light of Christ. We must occupy and serve until He comes. We are in the throes of war and this is not the time to turn and run. Souls are at stake!

So, be encouraged dear friends. Take heart. The victory is already won. Greater is He who is in us than he that is in the world. Don’t be overcome. HE has already overcome the world. Stay strong. The race and the battle is almost done.

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;  Ephesians 6
